Building a strong personal brand is not just about how you look. It’s about how you carry yourself.
How do you show up when things aren’t sailing smoothly?
Wearing your emotions on your sleeve where others can see can create a perception of you that could be hard to shake.
I remember watching a speaker at a conference, he drew me in and I wanted to work with him. After his talk I was on a mission to find him, and boy did I - he was with someone else having a melt-down right before my eyes. I was shocked, made an immediate u-turn and shook my head in disappointment.
It took only a split second for my perception of him to shift. In that moment I didn’t feel like I could trust him to deliver, and I never gave him the opportunity.
So remember, breakdowns happen; that’s a part of life. It’s up to you to be sure that it doesn’t derail the blood, sweat and tears that it took you to get where we are today. If you can't keep your cool, find a private space to express yourself, then find your center and return to your public presence.
Remember to breath, connect with your bigger purpose and ground your energy deep into your body.
I’m not saying that it’s not okay to speak your truth, it is - just do it in a way that enables you to stay present and connected with yourself and those around you. The ability to hold steady in spite of triggering emotions builds trust, confidence and solid leadership.
